We are opening our doors!
By the end of January, we will be ready to accept residents into our home! We couldn’t be more excited. (Be sure to read all the way to the end of this message to see photos of the home!) There are two things you can do to help:
1. Spread the word about the Maternity Home! Make sure you and your friends are on our mailing list. Like our Facebook Page, share it and our website with your friends, and pass along our initial application form with any organizations or individuals who might know of pregnant women in need of safe housing. Remember, we allow each resident to bring up to two additional children with her.
2. Pass out brochures! Email us and we can mail you a set of brochures or fliers to hand out to friends, at your church, social organization or workplace. We want to be sure that everyone in our community knows we’re here and ready to help any women who finds herself pregnant and in need of a safe and loving environment.
We will hold our first Volunteer Brunch on Saturday, February 7th at St. Mary’s Catholic Center in College Station in room 101 at 10 AM. This orientation luncheon will be an opportunity for supporters to learn about the many different volunteer opportunities that we have at Guiding Star Maternity Home. Please RSVP by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. This event is free, and a lovely brunch will be provided for you!
We’re accepting Expectant Mother Applications!
We are now accepting resident applications for the home. Help us spread the word by sharing our Resident Interest Form right here on our website. This is the first step in the intake process at the Maternity Home. Please pray for these women and their children who will be with us very soon.
We’re Hiring: House Manager
We’re accepting applications for our position of House Manager. This is a part-time (approximately 25-hours a week) position with a budgeted salaray of $24,000. Please spread the word to anyone you know that might be interested. Click here for the job description and application instructions.
And the name is…
Soon we will be sharing names of babies with you. But today we have a different sort of name to share. We have named our house! The special home that will change the lives of so many will be called The Elizabeth House – named after the faithful, welcoming, supportive woman of the Bible, Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist.
Collectively, our board prayed and felt called to name our home after Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon as I heard the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.” Luke 1:41-45
It is our prayer that the women and children that come to The Elizabeth House will be welcomed with joy, that they will find a safe place of support and love. That they will be reminded, as Elizabeth and Mary were, that God fulfills his promises and that He is always with us, even in the most difficult situations. Please join us in this prayer.
We have been overwhelmed with the generosity of so many over the past months. We have donations coming in constantly – donations of time, of money, of services and material items. Here are a few groups we’d like to thank:

As always, we appreciate your support. If you haven’t already, please consider donating to The Elizabeth House – Guiding Star Maternity Home.
Take a look inside The Elizabeth House – Guiding Star Maternity Home! In the next weeks, these rooms will be home to our first residents.
We thank the generous donations and incredible hard work of two women who made this house come together so quickly and beautifully: Robye Harvey and Rene Benson. Please join us in offering prayers of thanksgiving for these two women who have done so much to prepare a lovely welcoming home for pregnant women and their children.
